Also, it's time we really start learning our nouns with their articles (definite, or indefinite) It doesn't matter because both types of articles have to show the gender. At least it's not as bad as German where they have three genders (how did that happen?).
Tip: sometimes it is better to learn the noun (if it begins with a vowel) with its indefinite article because you won't have that contraction thing confusing you (that is where you have to replace the e or a of le or la with l'). With un and une it will always be the same for all nouns (whether starting with consonant or vowel).
eg. It is l'église and une église. Which article gives you the gender? Une.
